Frequently Asked Questions About ASGA Chicago
Can’t find your answer here? Call 352-373-6907 or email conferences@asgaonline.com. You’ll speak with a real person.
1. Will we have time to sightsee while we’re in Chicago?
Yes! If you arrive early on Friday, you’ll have the whole day to see Chicago. After the conference concludes Saturday evening, you’ll have time to see the town. And Sunday would be a perfect day to sightsee!
2. If I’m by myself, will I “fit in?”
Yes! You’ll easily connect with other student leaders or advisors. ASGA’s popular “Connector Cards” help you break the ice and exchange ideas and information with other students and advisors. You’ll meet them during workshops, breaks, at lunch, sightseeing, and at the hotel. You won’t be lonely!
3. Are any meals included?
Yes! Your registration includes a free lunch (Saturday boxed lunch with choice of sandwiches, fruit cup, cookie/brownie, chips, and drink) and a light continental breakfast Saturday morning. ASGA’s official hotel offers a free hot breakfast.
4. Can I change the names of our registrants if someone can’t make it?
Yes! You can change names anytime before the conference starts. See Register.
5. Is the hotel easy to get to?
Very easy! If you’re flying, you can take the Chicago “L” from the airport for just a few dollars. It takes about 30β45 minutes. See Travel, Directions, and Hotel.
6. Can you help me find a roommate at the conference hotel?
Yes! Email conferences@asgaonline.com with your name, gender, email, arrival/departure dates, and any special requests.
7. Will I need a rental car?
No! Chicago is very commuter friendly, so you can take the “L” just about anywhere. Taxis are also plentiful, and Uber and Lyft are cheaper alternatives to taxis.
8. What is the best way to get to the hotel?
Use the free hotel shuttle from Chicago O’Hare. See Travel and Directions.
9. Do I have to be an ASGA member to come to the conference?
No! Non-member schools always attend ASGA conferences. However, ASGA members save $100 per person at this event. Annual dues are $397 for schools under 4,000 students, $597 for 4,001β10,000, $897 for 10,001β20,000, and $1,097 for schools over 20,000. If you’re bringing four or more people, membership almost always pays for itself. See Join ASGA.
10. Where can we eat and not spend a fortune?
A continental breakfast and a boxed lunch are included in your registration fee, but dinners are on your own. See Experience Chicago!
11. What type of schools attend?
All types and sizes of schools attend the Chicago Student Government Training Conference. Usually a few more private colleges and universities attend than public universities and community colleges, simply because there are more private colleges nationwide.
12. How many students and advisors attend?
Usually about 150β200 students and administrators from dozens of institutions of all types and sizes attend, with roughly equal numbers of community colleges, private institutions, and public universities.
13. What’s included in our registration fee?
20 workshops and roundtables, all handouts, a boxed lunch (choice of sandwich, fruit, cookie/brownie, chips, and drink), and a light breakfast (coffee/tea, juice, bagels, muffins, fruit). See Conference Fees.
14. How should I dress?
Business formal or business casual is recommended.
15. Can I see the schedule and workshops in advance?
Yes! Click on Program. It’s updated regularly with any changes or improvements.
